John Kettler

November 18, 1954 — April 28, 2014

John Lane Kettler, 59, of Brenham, died April 28, 2014, at his residence in William Penn, with his loving family by his side. Visitation with the Kettler family will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services for John Kettler will be held Thursday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn with Pastor Mark Moldenhauer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Kettler was born November 18, 1954, in Brenham, TX, to Wilbert and Odell Huseman Kettler. With water from the Jordan River, he received the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. In 1969, he was confirmed by Pastor Hartfield. He graduated from Brenham High School in 1973. On May 21, 1983, he married Mary Lisa Steele. A devoted husband, father and dairyman, Mr. Kettler enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, traveling to look for the next best dairy show animal and helping children with dairy judging and showing. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Mary Lisa Steele Kettler of Brenham; son, John Ross Kettler and special friend Laramie Naumann of Brenham; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Kettler of Brenham; brothers and sister-in-law, Mark Kettler and Marcus "Biddy" and Linda Kettler, all of Brenham; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cindy and John Walkoviak of Washington; niece, Lindsay Kay and Brian Rosenbaum of Brenham; nephew, Christopher Walkoviak of Minot, ND; great-niece, Meagan Rosenbaum of Brenham; great-nephew, Colt Rosenbaum of Brenham; and aunts and uncles, Raymond and Pauline Kettler of Brenham, Lorene Schroeder of Brenham and Edwin Kettler of Navasota; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arthur L. and Mary Helen Steele. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert and Odell Kettler; sister, Linda Kay Kettler; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Pallbearers will be David "Bugger Red" Boenker, Larry Graham, Jason Hupe, Joey Muegge, Daniel Perez, David Ray, Stephen "Rooster" Schroeder and Rick Seeker. Honorary pallbearers will be the past and present Washington County dairy judgers and their families. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn.
