John Edward Steinbach, 61, of Brenham, died Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the family residence. John was born in Houston, Texas at St. Joseph s Hospital on March 14, 1946, the youngest child of Elsa Kolwes Steinbach and Herbert Louis Steinbach, MD, of Brenham, Texas. He was raised in Brenham and graduated from Brenham High School with honors. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham and remained a member there for life. John graduated from Blinn Junior College in Brenham where he received his AA degree and from Texas Lutheran College of Seguin, Texas now Texas Lutheran University with a BS degree, majoring in Biology and a minor in Chemistry with honors. He received his pharmacy degree from the University of Houston College Pharmacy in 1970 with honors RHO CHI. He was married and blessed with two children, Christopher John and Gretchen Johanna. He was a member of various civic organizations in Brenham and the surrounding area including the Brenham Evening Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge, and American Numismatic Association. John engaged in ranching and was the owner of Steinbach s Pharmacy in downtown Brenham for many years. He also had a Country & Western band for several years known as The Rovin Cowboys. Survivors include one son, Christopher John Steinbach of Austin, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Gretchen Johanna and Clay Michael Clepper of Pearland, TX; granddaughter, Annie Elizabeth Clepper and a grandson Samuel Clay Clepper of Pearland, TX; one brother, Dr. Herbert Louis Steinbach, Jr.of Dallas, TX; and one sister, Joanne Zuch of Waco, TX. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. John is also survived by his loyal care taker, Janice Martinez, affectionately known as J.M. John was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Howard W. Zuch. Funeral service for John Edward Steinbach will be held at 10:00A.M., Tuesday July 3, 2007, at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday July 2, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Gene Fuelberg, Kenneth Landua, Wayne Giese, Freddie Martinez, Paul Kruse, Neil Kulhanek, Dr. Wilfred Dietrich. Members of Evening Lions Clubs, Masonic Lodge, and friends and family will be considered as honorary pallbearers. For those who wish to memorialize John, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Brenham Animal Shelter, or to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church radio ministry. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street in Brenham.
