John Miles West, 86, of Brenham, died December 25, 2005, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. West was born April 9, 1919, in Corning, New York, to Lincoln S. and Laura Lee Disbrow West. He was baptized June 22, 1919, in First Methodist Episcopal Church in Corning, New York and was educated in Cleveland, Ohio schools. Mr. West served in the Army during World War II from 1942-1946. On Feb. 8, 1942, he was married to Joyce F. Heller in Brooklyn Memorial Methodist Church in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. West was retired from the City of Pomona, California. He loved golf, gardening, carpentry, traveling, reading and cooking. Survivors include his wife, Joyce F. West of Brenham; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Steve Miller of Burton and Laurel and Jack Ancone of Brenham; four grandchildren, Edward and Donna Miller of Burton, Deborah and Scott Hadley of Los Angeles, California, Michael Ancone of College Station and Alexandrea Ancone of College Station; three great-grandchildren, Elena Miller of Burton, Evan Miller of Burton and Max Hadley of Los Angeles, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother and one nephew. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Prairie Lea Cemetery with Rev. Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Miller, Michael Ancone, Craig Steele, Matthew Steele, Don Weaver, Carl Cunningham, Harley Ponder, Abel Gonzalez, Jack Ancone, Sr., Scott Hadley, Greg Felder and Lee Gaskamp. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ Building Fund or Brenham Christian Academy. Service arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
