Johnnie A. Hamilton joined her Heavenly Father on March 29, 2021 in Brenham, Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Pastor Troy Sikes officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
A visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Johnnie was born on June 29, 1921 to Beulah and Rufus White in Childress, Texas. She graduated from Childress High School. On December 7, 1940 she married Durwood J. Hamilton. Durwood and Johnnie moved their family to Brenham in 1957. She worked at Sears in Brenham until her retirement. Johnnie was a member of First Baptist Church in Brenham. In her lifetime, she was a member of the Ladies Auxillary in both the American Legion and the Veterans Of Foreign Wars.
Johnnie lived a long, vibrant life and enjoyed spending time with her family whether it was traveling or sitting on her Main Street front porch. She was intentional about making memories with the ones she loved. Johnnie also had a strong faith and loved the Lord, which she shared with all as the matriarch of her family.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Marsha and Sonny Dannhaus, Deborah and Mark Knipstein. Grandchildren Gary Brett and Tammy Hamilton, Amber and Kyle Pryor, Dana Nathanson, Allison and Kyle Allison, JC and Tara Knipstein. Great-grandchildren Jeanette and Chris Smiles, Raymond Nathanson, Lauren Hamilton and fiancé David Juarez, Jake Ryan Allison, Jared Ray Allison, Evie Grace Nathanson, Kylee Lynn Allison, Jaxson Lampe, Logan Lampe, Layton Lynn Knipstein, Haven Rose Knipstein, and River Matthew Knipstein. Great-great-grandchildren Ian Smiles and Adilyn Smiles.
Johnnie was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Durwood, brother Charles White, sister Donna White Harrington, son Donald R. Hamilton and grandson Colt Matthew Knipstein.
Serving as pallbearers will be Gary Hamilton, Kyle Allison, Kyle Pryor, JC Knipstein and Jared Allison. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ray Nathanson, Jake Allison, and Ian Smiles.
The family will receive visitors prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, an in memorian donation can be made to Brenham’s First Baptist Church Building Fund.
