Johnnie Mae Huseman Lueckemeyer, 88, wife of Harold "Pete" Lueckemeyer, passed away May 18, 2011 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, May 20, 2011 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. Pastor Jeffery King will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends and family Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Johnnie Mae was born in the William Penn Community of Washington Co. on February 7, 1923 to John and Hilda Emshoff Huseman. On March 18, 1823, she was baptized by Pastor H. F. Hillman in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, and was confirmed April 10, 1938 by Pastor C. J. Appel in the same church. After attending the Wm. Penn school, she was one of the first class to graduate from the high school. She was married to Harold Lueckemeyer in Grace Lutheran Church by Rev. T. H. Graalmann, and they enjoyed 67 years of married life. For 40 years, Johnnie Mae was employed at St. Francis and St. Jude Hospital, retiring in Oct. of 1983. She enjoyed every minute of her career, which consisted of caring for others. During this time, she made many, many friends. A member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, she was a charter member of the LWML. In addition, she taught Sunday School and Bible Class for a number of years. A lover of music, she sang in the church choir, as well as for many weddings, funerals, and special occasions. Preceding in death were her parents, John and Hilda Huseman, her son, Don Lueckemeyer; son-in-law, Larry Rude; sisters Odell Kettler and Ruby Seeker; niece Linda Kay Kettler; brothers-in-law, Wilbert Kettler and Gus Seeker. Johnnie Mae never had any grandchildren of her own but loved so many other children. She was especially fond of Hannah Lam and Meagan Rosenbaum. She is survived by her husband, Pete of Brenham; daughter Kathleen Rude of Rosenberg, as well as many nieces and nephews. Serving as pallbearers are Paul Richter, Arno Jahnke, Randle Hoppens, Boyd Nutt, Robert Borgstedte, Mark Lam, Marcus "Biddy" Kettler, and Brian Rosenbaum. Honorary pallbearers are Al and Amanda Hafer, Willie and Grace Kankel, Dennis and Pat Meyer, Louise Neumann, George and Lathel Norris, Hattie Fay Gross, and Landon and Shirley Klussmann. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, or to any favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.
