Johnnie Stegent

October 31, 1918 — February 14, 2007

Johnnie M. Stegent went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 surrounded by his loving family in Trinity Medical Center. He was born October 31, 1918 in Brenham, Texas to John and Clara Meschwitz Stegent. The past several years he had been a resident of Trinity Care Center in Brenham. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 62 years, Florence Dekowski Stegent on December 18, 2006. sons, Marion M. Stegent and Johnnie Mark Stegent, daughter, Deborah Pavlock; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Stegent; four sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his son; David John Stegent and his special friend, Kathy Kitowski; daughters; Florence Squeeky Stegent Clay and her husband Tommy; Suzanne Stegent Klodzinski and her husband James, son-in-law, Rufus Pavlock and brother, Walter Stegent. Also surviving him are the following grandchildren: Mark Allen Stegent, Donovan Pavlock; Kimberly Pavlock; Travis Clay, Jennifer Taranowski; Shelley Pavlock, James Klodzinski, Jr. and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and numerous friends. Johnnie received all of the sacraments of his Catholic faith at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill, Texas where he was a lifelong member. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the 112th Cavalry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Johnnie and his late wife Florence lived most of their married life on their farm in Chappell Hill, Texas until failing health forced them to move to an assisted living care center. Johnnie was retired from Daniels Valve in Houston, Texas and enjoyed cattle ranching. Johnnie was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He was a wonderful father to all of his children and was always there for them. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2007 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham, Texas. The celebration of Johnnie s life will be with the Mass of Resurrection at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill, Texas on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Vincent Chacko officiating. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery immediately following the Mass. The following will serve as pallbearers: Mark Allen Stegent, Donovan Pavlock, Travis Clay, Nathan Stegent, Raymond Stegent and Philip Stegent. Honorary pallbearers are: James Klodzinski, Jr., Pat Stegent and Tim Murski. The family wishes to thank all the nurses at Trinity Medical Center for the wonderful care they gave to their father in his final days and to Trinity Care Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the St. Stanislaus Cemetery Fund or St. Stanislaus Organ Fund, c/o St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 9175 FM 1371, Chappell Hill, TX 77426.
