Joy Carolyn Phillips Kipp was born in Vernon, Texas on December 18, 1928 to Harold F. and Hattie M. Phillips. She died at her home on July 8, 2006 after battling cancer for ten years. Mrs. Kipp loved and embraced life. She traveled extensively worldwide. She never wanted to visit the same place twice because there were so many interesting places to go. She played tennis, dominoes, bridge and canasta with gusto. Mrs. Kipp was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill. She had a special place in her heart for missions in Mexico where she participated in Vacation Bible School for Mexican nationals for more that twenty years. Mrs. Kipp is preceded in death by both parents, three brothers and four sisters. She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Roy Kipp, Sr.; four children: Carolyn White, Marion Haverkorn, Roy Kipp, Jr., and Paul Kipp, their spouses; twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; Irene Sanders, her beloved niece and care provider, and Aracely Hernandez, whom she loved as a daughter. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 10 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Burial will follow in Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill Mexican Missions.
