Joyce Spies

Joyce Spies, 90, widow of Glenver Spies, died on June 11, 2020 in Giddings, TX.

A visitation will be from 7:00 a.m.- 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 15, 2020 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Pastor Lynn Kemp officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery.

Mrs. Spies was born in Burton, TX on August 5, 1929 to Albert and Leona Stark Bernhardt. She married her husband, Glenver Spies, on March 30, 1947 in Warrenton, TX. She worked as a clerk at Target and Oshman’s Warehouse. She enjoyed traveling and camping, working in the yard and spending time with friends and family. She was a member of the Salt Grass Trail Association for 23 years and loved to ride, either horseback or in a wagon.

Mrs. Spies is survived by her son, Glyn Roy Spies of Brenham, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Kirts and husband Leonard “Lenny“ of Burton, TX and Cynthia Richardson and husband Gene of Giddings, TX; sister-in-law Rosalie Moehring of Brenham, TX; grandchildren, Sandra and husband Ross Tillman, Adam Spies and special friend Julie Richter, Kathy and husband Blake Shedd, Bryan and wife Shayne Kirts, Patrick and wife Ali Kirts, Courtney and husband Brent Hutchins and Clayton and wife Katherine Richardson; great-grandchildren, Rhealee Spies, Pierson Spies, Trey Tillman, Randa Tillman, Jagger Shedd, Kooper Kirts, Kollyns Kirts and Josie Richardson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Clayton Richardson, Jimmy Richardson, Bryan Kirts, Patrick Kirts, Ross Tillman and Michael Mullins.

Honorary pallbearers are Adam Spies, Brent Hutchins, Blake Shedd, Pierson Spies and Trey Tillman.

Memorials may be directed to American Alzheimer Association, and/or Oakland Manor Nursing and Rehab in Giddings, TX.
