June Flavin

June 17, 1925 — May 17, 2009

June Cameron Flavin, 83, of Brenham, died May 17, 2009, in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham. Mrs. Flavin was born June 17, 1925, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the daughter of John G. and Gladys Johnson Cameron. She was baptized and confirmed in St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She later became a member of Brenham Presbyterian Church in Brenham. She was a 1944 graduate of Marshall High School in Minneapolis, where she was her class valedictorian. On October 16, 1945, she was married to John W. Flavin in Stuttgart, Arkansas. During World War II, she was employed as an X-ray technician. Mrs. Flavin was a parish volunteer, Cub and Boy Scout leader, adult church choir member, Red Cross volunteer and a market researcher and pollster in Washington, D.C. She was also an accomplished knitter and Mah Jongg player, member of numerous bridge clubs, English as Second Language tutor at the University of Arizona Extension office, president of the Minnesota Club of Greater Tucson, a sports mom , and a foster parent through Catholic charities. Mrs. Flavin was a member of PEO, Red Hats and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Stephen J. Flavin of Brenham and Patrick J. and Nancy T. Flavin of Lawrence, Kansas; daughter, Mary Lynn Harris of Brenham; grandchildren, Todd Flavin, Pamela Flack, Brian Flavin, Megan Flavin, Christopher Flavin, Kelly Flavin, Michael Flavin, Patrick Walker Flavin, Molly Flavin, Linda Knight and Loretta Kopp; great-grandchildren, Emily and Abigail Flack and Christina and Rikki Flavin; brother and sister-in-law, Donavan and Nading King of Tucson, Arizona; and sister and brother-in-law, Marlys and Arthur Krenz of Sun City, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Jack Flavin; son, Paul C. Flavin; and son-in-law, William A. Harris. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5 at Brenham Presbyterian Church in Brenham with Dr. James McCloud officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Brazos Valley/Brenham.
