Katie Schwake Wehmeyer, 97, of Brenham died on the evening of October 31, 2011. She is the widow of Edwin Wehmeyer. Katie was born in Prairie Hill, Washington County, Texas on August 1, 1914, the daughter of Emil & Ida Finke Schwake. She attended school at Independence. Mrs. Wehmeyer worked as an independent seamstress, as well as for Kugel''s Cleaners and Bode & Tonn for twenty-five years. Her hobbies included embroidery, quilt-making and tending flowers. Another of her vey favorite pastimes was traveling with her cousins, John, Lillian & David Folschinsky. Katie is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Staten; a nephew and his wife, Jerry & Elizabeth Schwake; a niece, Elizabeth Brinkmeyer; a nephew and his wife, Carl & Rosa Gallip; a niece and her husband, Kathy & Travis Sternadel; a niece and her husband, Connie & Bennie Waggoner; a niece and her husband Karen & Leon Schobel. She is also survived by a host of great-nieces and great-nephews. Her circle of friends include Glenwood Vierus, Jr., Kay Rodrique, Kathy Gummelt, Larry Assmann, Joyce Fortune, Glen & Jetta Goodman, Doris & Clem Krolczyk and Pastor Lawrence Bade. Along with her parents and husband, Katie is preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, with Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Glenwood Vierus, Jr., Doris Krolczyk, Doug Rogers, Carl Galipp, Travis Sternadel, Connie Waggoner, Larry Assmann, Mike Schobel and Jetta Goodman. Considered as being honorary pallbearers are the management & staff of Gazebo Terrace, Joyce Fortune and Kathy Gummelt. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul''s Christian Day School of Brenham. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, Inc.; 1306 Main St., Brenham.
