Kenneth Ivan Gus Sanders passed away Thursday, December 16, 1t his home in Chappell Hill. He was born February 9, 1923 in Amite, Louisiana to Newton Augustus and Syrena Watson Sanders. He graduated from Amite High School. Mr. Sanders was a veteran of WWII serving in the Naval Forces on LCIM #740 in the Pacific. He served at the Battles of Okinawa, Iwo Jima and IE Shima. After the war, Mr. Sanders attended Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge where he met his wife, Marilyn Stockdale. They were married on the LSU campus in St. Albans Episcopal Church. In 1957, the Sanders moved to Houston where they reared their family and lived for many years. The Sanders were members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Houston. Upon retirement from Dresser Industries in 1980, Mr. and Mrs. Sanders moved to Chappell Hill where he owned and operated Sandex Tool Supply, Inc. Mr. Sanders was active in many service organizations. He was a Mason, Herbert Lodge # 67 and a Paul Harris Fellow Rotarian, Brenham Chapter. He was also a member of the Chappell Hill Historical Society and the Disabled Veteran s and Blind Veteran s Associations. He was a member of St. Peter s Episcopal Church, Brenham and was a past Vestry member. Me. Sanders was a sportsman who enjoyed training dogs for quail hunting. Mr. Sanders was a devoted and loving husband and father and he was a very good friend to many. He was also a kind and caring friend to many animals, domestic and wild, and they will all miss him very much. He is preceded in death by his infant son Thomas Paul Sanders, his parents, three sisters and two brothers. He is survived by wife Marilyn Stockdale Sanders of Chappell Hill and daughters Nancy Sanders Strebeck and husband Lonnie, Jane Sanders Menefee and husband Len, Julie Sanders Edwards and husband Jack and Martha Sanders Jackson. Also, grandchildren Cari Strebeck, Andy Jackson, Kelley Jackson, Ben Jackson and Lloyd and Brenda Edwards and great grandsons Parker Menefee, Tyler Edwards and Brian Edwards. Mr. Sanders was a lifelong Episcopalian and Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter Episcopal Church, Hillcrest at Airline, Brenham, Texas, Sunday, December 19 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Atkinson Cemetery, Chappell Hill immediately following the service. The Reverend Cecilia Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends after burial at Waverly Plantation, Chappell Hill. Donations may be made to St. Peter s Episcopal Church, Brenham or to the Brenham Animal Shelter. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.
