Kenneth Stephen Thomas, 61, left this earth on June 21, 2017.
Ken was born on December 7, 1955 in Galveston, TX, to Billy Ray Thomas and Patricia Joan Hencey. He attended Heights High School, formerly John H. Reagan in 1970. He served as a Corporal within the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion of the United States Marine Corps. He married Sharon Ann Kubeczka, the love of his life, in 1981.
Ken held a handful of positions throughout his working career, possessing a broad skill set. From post-tension construction to shop work at BMW, seismic data processing at geocenter and service manager with a large reprographics company in Houston. The couple welcomed a baby girl into their home and Ken set about teaching her all of his skill sets, ranging from working on cars to swimming and being self sufficient no matter what the task at hand. His daughter remembers him as a kind, gentle, patient, driven, loving, quiet, beyond helpful father who would do anything for her and encouraged her to pursue her goals.
Ken was accomplished at working on anything that had an engine and often helped his neighbor with his jet boat, working into the wee hours of the night just to fire it up at midnight to inform the neighbors they had been successful in their attempts. He was a tall man, often referred to as a gentle giant and his mother-in-law’s tree; helping her with hard-to-reach light bulb installations, googling “impossible” to find replacement parts and assisting with her computer problems as her personal “tech support.” Ken was a jack of all trades around the house and loved working in the yard. He was a generous, kind, quiet individual who loved his family and friends. Ken was passionate about golf and passing that skill on to his daughter, taking his boat and waverunners to Lake Somerville, swimming, spending countless hours training his daughter in volleyball and helping anyone who required assistance.
Ken is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Casey Taylor and husband William; mother, Patricia Cheeney; sister, Linda Thomas; grandchildren, Rory Marie Taylor and Lincoln Wallace Taylor; aunt and uncle, Margaret and Kenneth Durham and their children; in-laws, Joe and Irene Konieczny; and numerous extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Ray Thomas; stepfather, Gerald Cheeney; niece, Kim Hutchinson.
