Kyle Brau

September 30, 1954 — December 31, 2017

Kyle Dean Brau, 63, of Wintersong Drive, Brenham, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at home unexpectedly.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham with Rev. Matthew Jacobs and Rev. William Holzer officiating. He was born Sept 30, 1954, in Brenham, the son of the late Arthur "Bubba" and Ruth (Ullrich) Brau. Due to illness, Kyle retired early from the City of Brenham as a Wastewater Plant Operator. Kyle was an avid reader spending countless hours reading novels by his favorite authors Louis L'Amour, Tony Hillerman and Lee Child. He retained everything he read to the point where he was considered the family walking encyclopedia.

Kyle was the founder and president of the Quarter Master Racing Club of Brenham. He was the owner and driver of his pride and joy "Shiftless". Kyle was a 200 average bowler. This passion he shared with his wife, Joyce, whom he married on Oct 16, 1993. Together they had such fun times joining couple leagues in Brenham, Schulenberg and College Station. The highlight of bowling together came when they bowled at the Pro-Am Tournament in Austin. In addition, Kyle and Joyce loved to watch NHRA drag racing on TV. Kyle will forever be remembered for his great sense of humor, compassion for family and animals. He so loved 6-year-old bulldog John Henry Louis. He often called him "little man" even though he wasn't so little at 65 pounds.

Kyle is survived by his wife Joyce (Calarco) Brau; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Eric Santana and grandsons Michael Ray and EJ of Naples, FL; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kerri and Don Woltmann and Kami and Wayne Sherrouse of Brenham; aunts and uncles, Dean and Joyce Ullrich of Carmine,Flora Ann and Dennis Masar of Scotch Plains, NJ, Marjorie Trutt of Dallas; niece and husband, Holli and Nick Reeves and children Ethan, Addie and Emmett; and several cousins.

Besides his parents, Kyle was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Arthur and Geneva Brau; maternal grandparents, Ilo and Agnes Ullrich.; uncles, Henry Brau and Eddie Trutt; aunt, Virginia Maass; and nephew, Matthew Krause.

Serving as pallbearers are Don Woltmann, Wayne Sherrouse, Ronnie Huebel, Glen Flentge, Mike Brau and Rocky Ullrich. Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or charity of choice.
