Larry D. Schilling was born June 21, 1954 in Brenham to Delphine and Gladys Mertz Schilling. He was baptized in Greenvine, and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. On May 22, 1976, he was married to Terri Borgstedte.
Larry was retired, having spent his life (since he could hold a paint brush) in the construction industry. He began his career as a painter working for his dad, and then for various construction companies. He owned Schilco Construction and Supply. Later, he worked as a senior materials inspector for various engineering companies.
He graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M in 1976, with a B.S. in Industrial Ed. Larry was a devoted husband and father. His pride and joy was his daughter, Laura. He attended each and every function she participated in, even on Friday nights, taking Laura and her friends from their volleyball game and rushing to the football game so they could march. He even allowed himself to have make-up applied to his face by a blindfolded 10 year old girl at one of her birthday parties.
An avid hunter using either a gun or bow, he made his final and largest kill, a 10 pt. buck, at his property in San Saba in November of this year. His daughter said it best: “Dad worked so he could hunt.” He shared his love of hunting with many of his buddies. Any item any of them needed on a hunting trip could always be found on Larry’s truck. He was always prepared.
Larry enjoyed life, spending time with his wife and family. Gifted with a great sense of humor, he could always make everyone laugh. Along with his wife and daughter, he traveled to every state in the union except Hawaii – that trip would have taken place in 2019. At the time of his death, he was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church in Austin.
