Laura Jean Cornett, 86, of Brenham, passed away September 11, 2011 in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011 in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston, with Rev. Wesley Wellborn officiating. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2 p.m., Sun. Sept. 25, 2011 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, with Rev. Sam Duree officiating. Laura was born September 10, 1925 in Lockhart, Texas to Joseph Eugene and Susie Oakley Fox. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College, where she met her husband, Charles Cornett. They were married on Sept. 2, 1947 in Robstown. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1984. Laura was an avid bridge player, and held memberships in several bridge clubs. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, where she remained a member until her death. Devoted to her family, she adored her children and grandchildren. Among her many homemaking skills, Laura was a talented seamstress. Her daughters grew up wearing original clothes that she designed and sewed, including prom dresses, twirlers uniforms and wedding gowns. Laura''s husband, Charles, was an educator and she was always involved in various school activities. She enjoyed hosting parties at their home for the entire school district faculty, with Christmas parties being her favorite. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Sara Cornett of Missouri City; daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Fred Lowery, also of Missouri City, and Dana and Bill Cramer of Brenham; grandchildren: Jana Lehrmann, Leah and Corey Cook, Matthew Lowery, Charles Lowery, Katie and John Grimsley, Courtney and Justin Adams, Justin Cornett, and fiancé, Ally Roberts; one great-grandchild, Lillie Jean Lehrmann; her brother, Curtis Fox of Robstown, and a sister, Helen Fox McNair of Driscoll, as well as numerous other relatives. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, and one brother, Bud Fox. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Brazos Valley, or to First United Methodist Church of Brenham. Funeral arrangements for Laura Jean Cornett are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
