Laurel Revely “Budge” Nixon, 94, passed away on July 3, 2018 at his home near Carmine.
He was born May 5, 1924 to Thomas Lee and Bessie Lynn (Thomas) Nixon in Brownwood, Tx. After graduating from high school, Budge served his country as a member of the U.S. Army in the Pacific in World War II. After his discharge he attended the University of Houston School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1951.
After a career as a pharmacist in Houston, Budge retired to his property in the Carmine area. He enjoyed playing dominoes, watching the Houston Rockets, the Houston Astros, and Fox News. He was also an avid reader.
Budge was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth Nixon, and sister Patricia Vanderburg. Survivors include his sister, Kathleen Harrison, niece and caregiver Midge Cloyd, nieces Sharon White and Karen Wright, nephew Jerry Lee Vanderburg, as well as numerous great nephews, great nieces, and cousins.
A visitation will be held Friday July 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 7 at 10 a.m. at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton, with Brother Ideker officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Vince Cloyd, Chris Cloyd, Allen Wickel, Ed Bates, Tommy Brewster, and Fred Morehead.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church of Burton, P.O. Box 232, Burton, Tx. 77835 or to a church or charity of your choice.
