Lavern Wilburn Rabbit John Reuter, 78, husband of Verna May Struck Reuter, passed away October 5, 2008 in Methodist Hospital in Houston. He was born Nov. 4, 1929 in Round Top, Texas to Erwin and Edna Michael Reuter. He was baptized in Round Top and confirmed in Rutersville, Texas. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in the Korean Conflict. On November 6, 1955, he married Verna May Struck in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. Rabbit was employed by Brenham Wholesale for 13 years and then by Central Freight Co. for 23 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 48, and of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. At St. Paul''s, he served on the council while the new church was being built. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family, and especially enjoyed drinking coffee with his friends at Max Donuts. Rabbit''s pride and joy were his grandchildren and his dog, Midnight. He also loved his church family. Mr. Reuter is survived by his wife of 52 years, Verna May Reuter of Brenham; son John Reuter and wife Tammy of Bellville; former daughter-in-law Stephanie Reuter of Friendswood; grandchildren Chase and Ashlee Reuter of Friendswood; brother Wilburn Reuter and wife Gloria of Stafford; sister Dolores Wessels of Columbus; brother Kervin Reuter and friend DeeDee of Giddings; father-in-law Marvin Struck, Sr. of Burton; sister-in-law Nora Lee Goldberg of Burton; brother-in-law Marvin Struck, Jr, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erwin and Edna Reuter; daughter, Melissa Reuter; sister Lorine Domaschk and husband Elwood; brother-in-law Wilburn "Boots" Wessels; mother-in-law Annie Struck, and brother-in-law, Monroe Goldberg. Funeral services for Lavern Wilburn Reuter will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of Rehburg with Pastor Steve Cox officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Doug and Richard Wessels, Stephen and Terry Reuter, Larry Goldberg, Marcus Randermann, Chris Coronado, and cousin Russell Reuter Charles Shamwell, Jerry Merten, and Erma Luetge have been named honorary pallbearers, as well all employees of Brenham Wholesale Grocery and Central Freight Lines. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul''s Lutheran Church of Rehburg, or to Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
