Laverna Landua

LaVerna Landua, 93, died Jan. 11, 2017 at Kruse Village in Brenham.

LaVerna was born Sept. 15, 1923 in the Rehburg Community to Will and Lillian Neinast Landua. She was baptized Nov. 11, 1923 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Rehburg by Pastor H. Weber, and confirmed on Sept 19, 1937 by Pastor C. H. Lehne.

LaVerna grew up in the Rehburg Community and later moved to Brenham where she lived until her death. She attended schools in Charlesville, Brenham, and Blinn College. She worked as a bookkeeper at Farmers Merchants Lumber Co. for 27 years and at Washington County State Bank for 21 years until she retired in 1990. She was a faithful volunteer at Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village from 1991 until recently when her health was failing. In appreciation for her service LSSS presented her the "Helping Hand Award" in 1997.

She was an active member of Eben Ezer Lutheran Church as a Sunday School teacher for 30 years and served on many church committees. As her health declined she became an associate member of Christ Lutheran Church near her home in Brenham.

LaVerna was preceded in death by her parents, sister Guernell Landua Ahrens, and brother-in-law Erwin Ahrens.

She is survived by her nephew and wife, Gerald and Sally Ahrens of Conroe, niece and husband, Ruth and Robert Parker of Brenham, great nephews and spouses, Matt and Lauren Parker of Brenham, and Jonathan and Heidi Parker of Austin, great niece and husband, Kathleen and Tim Barr, of Seguin, and great niece, Lynelle Ahrens of San Antonio. She is also survived by 2 great great nephews and 7 great great nieces.

Visitation will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan.,13, 2017. A graveside service will be held Sat., Jan. 14, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Eben Ezer Cemetery in Berlin with Pastor Ken Weiss officiating followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastor Mark Groves.

The family extends deepest appreciation to the staff of Kruse Village for their continuing care and support over the past years and especially to her caregivers and therapists in the Rehabilitation Center at Kruse for the past several months.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell Rd, Brenham, TX 77833, Christ Lutheran Church for ELCA World Hunger, or the charity of one's choice.
