LaVerne Mildred Sanders, 85, wife of J. Ray Sanders, died October 7, 2015 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Martin Moore officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. LaVerne Sanders was born March 17, 1930 in Marlin, Texas to William J. and Minnie Hanusch Zipperlen. On April 26, 1952, she married Charles T. Starnes at First Lutheran Church in Rosebud. Charles passed away November 15, 2000. On Dec. 10, 2011, she married J. Ray Sanders at Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown. She was a faithful member of Abiding Word Lutheran Church. Playing bridge and dominoes were favorite pastimes. LaVerne also enjoyed reading and traveling. She especially treasured time spent with each of her husbands and providing a loving home for her family. LaVerne is survived by her husband, J. Ray Sanders of Brenham; son Glenn Starnes and wife Connie of College Station; daughter-in-law Ronda Kane of Cedar Park; grandchildren: Erinn McDonald and husband Brian; Isaac Starnes; and Hailey Davis and husband Spencer. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles T. Starnes; son, Jay Starnes; and brother, Raymond Zipperlen. Memorials may be directed to Abiding Word Lutheran Church in Brenham.
