Lawrence William Kiel, 85, of Round Top, the husband of Ileen Kiel, died Friday, May 18, 2007, at Trinity Care Center in Brenham. Mr. Kiel was born July 9, 1921, in Carmine, Texas, to Otto C. and Donie Dippel Kiel. He was baptized on October 30, 1921 by Pastor Carl Baer in parents home, and was confirmed on September 29, 1935, by Pastor Kralik in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top. On April 23, 1941, he was married to Ileen Werner by Pastor Kralik in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. Mr. Kiel was a farmer/rancher in the Round Top area his entire life and loved his farm and cattle and enjoyed his farm chores. One of his favorite pleasures was playing dominoes, especially 42. He was a life-long member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ileen Werner Kiel of Round Top; niece, Doris Jankowiak and husband, Johnnie, of Brenham; brother-in-law, Ezra Kelm; great nieces, Christy Doss and husband Brad, and Chandra Jankowiak; special friends, Frank & Junice Walther and El Gene & Mary Ann Sommerfeld, and cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Peggy Lee Kiel, sister, Ora Lee Kelm, and father & mother-in-law, John & Louise Emmrich Werner. Funeral service for Lawrence William Kiel will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2007, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating. Burial will follow in the Isaac Hill Cemetery in Round Top. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 20, at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Johnnie Jankowiak, Kirby Dippel, Gary Pior, Marvin Sommerfeld, Kenneth Renner and Bobby Marshall. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Doss, Floyd Braun, Max Baranowski, Mike Sommerfeld, David Walther, Larry Walther, and Ted Stardig. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Isaac Hill Cemetery Association or Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, in Brenham.
