Lawrence Schmidt

Lawrence Arthur Schmidt, 83, of Burton, died March 3, 2003, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Schmidt was born May 22, 1919, in Burton, to Arthur and Elise Stork Schmidt. He was educated at the Greenvine School. On Oct. 13, 1940, he married Elvera Neutzler in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine. Mr. Schmidt was a retired farmer, rancher and carpenter. He was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine, the La Bahia Turn Verein, La Bahia Cemetery Association, Burton Sons of Hermann and Burton Fire Department. For more than 30 years, he served on the Washington County Fair swine committee. Mr. Schmidt enjoyed dancing and hunting and had a lot of pride in his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Elvera Schmidt of Burton; sons and daughters-in-law, Delbert and Peggy Schmidt and Roy and Carol Schmidt, all of Burton; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Fred Rau of Brenham; grandchildren, Keith and Renee Schmidt of Pflugerville, Kim and John Knode of Burton, Carrie and Courtney Schmidt of Burton, Stacy and Trey Hardy of Cypress and Dane Rau and fiancée Melonie Loewe of Brenham; great-grandchildren, Taylor Renee Knode and Jenna Reese Hardy; sisters-in-law, Emma Neutzler and Erna Mae Neutzler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eddie and Velma Penkert and Elmer and Lillie Neutzler; brothers-in-law, Oren Neutzler and Wilbert Neutzler; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 6 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine with Pastor Pamela Werelle officiating. Burial will be in La Bahia Cemetery, near Burton. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 in Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Pallbearers will be Valgene Neutzler, Nelson Neutzler, Jack Schramm, Curtis Wendler, Wayne Schmidt, Bill Thane, Ernest Luera and Jack Herger. Memorials may be given to Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine, the La Bahia Cemetery Association or the charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
