Leigh Ruth Clay, 87, of Brenham, died April 15, 2011 at College Station Medical Center in College Station. She was the widow of T.C. Clay, III. A private family graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at THe Independence Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, April 18, 2011 from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Leigh Ruth was born on October 19, 1923 in Rosebud, TX, to S. B. and Inez Jenkins McCauley. She was baptized in 1929 in San Marcos, TX. Leigh Ruth received her education in the Brenham Schools and Blinn College. On May 28, 1946, Leigh Ruth married T. C. Clay in Weatherford, TX. Her family considered her as the best cook in the world. She taught in a one room school in Latium,, the first through the eighth grade. During WWII she worked for the Consolidated Aircraft Builders, in Fort Worth, building B-24 bombers. Leigh Ruth received her LVN certification in the 1970''s at Blinn College. She worked as a nurse at St. Jude Hospital and Trinity Medical Center and was later employed at Brenham State School, where she was dedicated to the clients she worked with. She loved to read and was involved in obtaining information on the Clay family history. Leigh Ruth collected Coco-Cola memorabilia and was an Elvis Presley fan. Survivors include: sons and daughters-in-laws: Finney and Donna Clay, Tommy and Florence Clay, David Jones and Patti Clay, and James Clay and special friend Terry Zettle, all of Brenham, Grandchildren; Crystal Clay and husband David Martinez, Sgt. Colt Clay and wife Remy, Casie Clay, Travis Clay, Joshua Clay and wife Cindy, Jentri Blake and husband Justin, Johanna Wilkerson and husband Chance, and Jordan Clay. Great-grandchildren: David Martinez, Jr., and Payton and Lyla Blake. She is also survived by her sister, Virginia LaPorte of Ingram, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, E. Finney and Ruth Clay, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband T. C. Clay, her parents, grandson Tommy Clay, and daughter-in-law Becky Clay. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
