Leon Boecker

Leon Henry Boecker, 87, husband of Floradell Spies Boecker, passed away May 17, 2014. Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Welcome Lutheran Church, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Leon Boecker was born Sept. 2, 1926 in the Welcome community to Otto and Minnie Schroeder Boecker. He was baptized Dec. 5, 1926, and confirmed April 6, 1941 at Welcome Lutheran Church, where he continued membership until his death. After completing his education, Leon served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corp. On June 27, 1953, he was married to Floradell Spies. Leon was a rancher, as well as a business owner. Leon was an avid fisherman and hunter, and playing cards and dominoes were favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed dancing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren, who dearly loved listening to his stories of the past. Memberships included the American Legion Post #48, V.F.W. Post 7104, the Salem V.F.D. and the New Wehdem Shooting Club. Survivors include his wife, Floradell Boecker of Brenham; daughters Linnae Hirsch and husband Charles of Brenham, Susan Boecker of The Woodlands, and Lori Pittman and husband Mike of Brenham; grandchildren: Adam, Nicholas, Brett and Keith Hirsch, Kyle, Brooke and Alex Pittman; brother and sister-in-law Burney and Earline Boecker of Brenham; sister and brother-in-law LaRuth and Milton Flentge of Brenham, and sister-in-law Verda Krause. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jody Lee; his parents, parents-in-law Alfred and Delta Spies; sister, Bernita Hueske; sisters-in-law Melba Muske and Evelyn Spies, and brothers-in-law Walter Hueske, Allen Spies, Wilbert Krause, and Leander Muske. Serving as pallbearers are Adam Hirsch, Nicholas Hirsch, Brett Hirsch, Keith Hirsch, Kyle Pittman, Brooke Pittman, and Alex Pittman. Memorials may be directed to Welcome Lutheran Church General or Building Fund, or to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell Road, Brenham, Tx. 77833.
