Leona Hohlt Kalbow, 80, of Brenham, died August 30, 2007, at Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. Mrs. Kalbow was born April 26, 1927, in the Prairie Hill community of Washington County, Texas, to Edwin F. and Bertha Quebe Hohlt. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. Mrs. Kalbow attended Prairie Hill and Brenham schools and beauty college. Leona married Alfred Kalbow at St. John s Lutheran Church in the Prairie Hill Community on September 23, 1951. She and Alfred made their home in the Meyersville Community and are members of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wiedeville where she taught children s Sunday School for 25 years and was a member of the Ladies Aid. In addition to making costumes for church Christmas plays, Leona liked to sew for her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Alfred Kalbow of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Debbie Kalbow of Riesel; daughter and son-in-law, Verlyn and Jerry Redden of Palestine; grandchildren Michael Kalbow and wife April of El Campo; Leslie Bates and husband Allen of Kyle; Kevin Kalbow of Riesel; Kasey Englehart and husband Dustin of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Paige Redden of Conroe; Jody Redden of Austin, and one great-grandson, Nicholas Dale of Conroe; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Marjorie Hohlt of Brenham, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Hohlt. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2 at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Wiedeville with Pastor Jim Abbott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m Saturday, Sept. 1 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are the grandchildren and Wade Wellmann.
