Leona Landgraf

April 9, 1940 — December 16, 2023

Leona Landgraf took her last breath on earth on December 15, 2023, and her first breath in Heaven the very next moment. In perfect health, she was joyfully reunited with her husband of 57 years, Lonnie Landgraf, her parents, and her brother.

Leona was born on April 9, 1940 and met Lonnie while both were students at Blinn College in 1958. They married and made their first home together in Tripoli, Libya, where they welcomed their first daughter, Lisa. The Landgrafs returned to the states and settled in Houston where daughters Lynne and Julie were born. In 1971, they returned to Brenham where they made their home until his passing in 2017.

Leona was first a homemaker but also a nurse, earning her LVN credentials from Blinn College at the age of 39. She had a brilliant mind and compassionate heart for her patients at Bohne Hospital. She found a special joy in teaching the Certified Nurse Aides at the Sweetbriar Rest Home. She was a member for most of her adult life of Calvary Baptist Church. Leona had a special talent for poetry and was a skilled, self-taught pianist. She loved music and was an excellent dancer.

Leona is survived by her children Lisa Landgraf of Cedar Park, Lynne (Chris) Quillian of Pasadena, and Julie (Brian) Gerstenberger of Levelland and by her grandchildren C.J. (Shannon) Quillian of Shalimar, FL, Annie Quillian of Marina del Ray, CA, and Caleb (Taylor) Johnson of Jacksonville, NC.

The family extends a heartfelt thanks to the staff at Vista Nursing Home and especially to the staff and volunteers of Divinity Hospice as well as to the Reverend Michael Holster.

A Graveside Service is scheduled for Monday, December 18th at 11:00 AM, at Prairie Lea Cemetery.
