Leroy Nordt

Leroy Nordt, 85, of Brenham, husband of Helen Bockhorn Nordt, passed away January 2, 2007 in Kruse Memorial Village. Mr. Nordt was born August 27, 1922 in Washington County to F. W. Nordt and Ella Schawe Nordt. He was baptized at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg on October 29, 1922, and confirmed at St. Paul?s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham on March 21, 1937. Leroy attended Washington County schools before being drafted into the army in November of 1942. After serving three years helping build the ?Ledo Road?, in Burma, and being awarded two Bronze Stars, Leroy returned home to attend Blinn College. He worked six years for the Carnation Company, and 32 years for the Lower Colorado River Authority from which he retired as Senior Patrolman. On January 4, 1948, he married Helen Bockhorn in St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Brenham. He and Helen served their church faithfully in various capacities over the years. Leroy enjoyed fishing, camping, deer hunting, playing cards and dominoes. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Bockhorn Nordt; son Lee Nordt and wife Kathy of Hewitt, Texas, and grandchildren, Garrison and Kaylee Nordt. He was preceded in death by his parents, F. W. and Ella Nordt; two brothers: Wilfred and Ervin infant Nordt, and two sisters, Ruby Nordt Rosenbach and Frances Nordt infant. Funeral services for Leroy Nordt will be held Saturday, January 5, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Brenham, with Pastor Lawrence Bade officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place Friday, January 4, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Radio Ministry of St. Paul''s Lutheran Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
