Leroy “Tex” Thielemann, 94, of Brenham, died Nov. 27, 2018, at Kruse Village in Brenham.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
The funeral for Leroy Thielemann will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, with Pastor Skip Stutts officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Leroy was born Dec. 20, 1923, in Gay Hill, Washington County, TX, to Ed and Ida (Pankonien) Thielemann. He was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church of Gay Hill and for many years taught as a Sunday School teacher.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the Buddy Wright American Legion Post # 48. Leroy attended Blinn College and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Master’s Degree in Education. He taught school his entire career in the Brenham Independent School District.
Leroy loved playing community baseball with the Mound Hill Hillers, where he either played or coached over a 14-year span. He also loved to fish and hunt, as well as playing pitch. He loved country music and was an accomplished harmonica player. He was also member of the Mound Hill Shooting Club and loved playing cards there with his friends
Survivors include his sister-in-law, Mae Dell Thielemann of Brenham; nephews and nieces, Douglas and Connie (Bauer) Thielemann of Giddings, Duane and Jeannie (Reeves) Thielemann of Santa Fe; and Cindy and Mike Akins of Pace, FL; Great-nieces, Nicole Paul and husband Chris, Natalie Thielemann, Jenna Akins, Riley Akins, Faith Thielemann, Jessica Thielemann and Samantha Thielemann.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Ida (Pankonien) Thielemann and brother, Eugene Thielemann,
Pallbearers will be Mike Akins, Nicole Paul, Chris Paul, Natalie Thielemann, Faith Thielemann, and Samantha Thielemann. Honorary pallbearers will be Jenna Akins, Riley Akins and Jessica Thielemann.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill general fund or any other charitable organization.
