Leslie Rohde

Leslie John Rohde, 83, of Bastrop, died July 24, 2006, in Silver Pines Nursing Home in Bastrop. Mr. Rohde was born April 7, 1923, in Warrenton, Texas, to Fritz and Johanna Addicks Rohde. He was baptized Oct. 21, 1923, by Pastor M.C. Hoermann and confirmed Sept. 20, 1936, in St. John Lutheran Church of Warrenton by Pastor Julius Bosshard. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and proudly served in the 42nd Infantry Rainbow Division, which was on the front lines of battle in the European Theater. Landing in France and battling throughout Europe, he took part in the liberation of the concentration camp at Dachau, Germany and was also part of the occupation force in Austria. On Jan. 12, 1947, he was married to Ouida Steenken in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. Mr. Rohde was a mechanic and loved hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Ouida Rohde of Bastrop; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Becky Rohde of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Charlet and Dale Neidig of Bastrop; grandchildren, Tyson and Ortrun Neidig of Denver, Colorado and Summer Rohde and special friend Tommy Swallow of Houston. He is preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Val Gene; three brothers, Elo Rohde, Delwin Rohde and Marvin Rohde; and two sisters, Edna Lange and Norma Wubbenhorst. The family will receive visitors from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, July 27 at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 28 at Florida Chapel Cemetery in Round Top with Pastor Stan Whites officiating. Pallbearers will be Doug Fewell, Billy James, Fritz Steenken, Tommy Rohde, Robert Wubbenhorst and Rocky Knittel. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor s choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home, 13560 W. Washington St. in Burton.
