Lonnie Grawunder, 73, of Snook, TX, died Saturday, June 10, 2023 at his home.

Lonnie was born May 30, 1950, to Ewald and Alice (Bockhorn) Grawunder, in Beaumont, TX. Lonnie moved to Rosenberg with his parents when his dad’s employment was transferred to Orchard, TX. He attended Robert E. Lee Elementary School and graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in 1968. He attended Wharton County Junior College for a year before he was drafted into the Army. He served for two years (1970-1972), during which time he was stationed in Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX and Ramstein, Germany. Lonnie was honorably discharged and went to work for White Pontiac Dealership in Rosenberg. Soon after he started a career working for the United States Postal Service in Rosenberg, TX. He married Linda Jean Butemeyer on September 17, 1977 in Rosenberg, TX. In 1986 he transferred to Round Rock with the Postal Service and moved his family to Leander, TX. Lonnie worked for the Postal Service for 37 years before retiring in 2009. At work he was known for his friendly demeanor and customer service. Those who knew Lonnie weren’t surprised to learn that he knew everyone’s name and their box numbers in the post office where he worked.

Lonnie would often reminisce about the good times he had running around with friends in Fort Bend County and many other events throughout his life. He had a 4-Wheeler that he and his kids enjoyed riding behind their Leander home for years. They would often be gone for hours exploring near Block House Creek. Lonnie also enjoyed fishing and boating. When his children were younger, they would spend time on the boat skiing and riding tubes. Their favorite lakes were Lake Georgetown, Buchanan, and Somerville. Later in life, Lonnie and Linda enjoyed camping and exploring different State Parks as well as the Corps of Engineer Parks.

Lonnie enjoyed tinkering with things. Whenever there was a problem to solve, he would find a way! He was handy and knew a little about everything; electrical, plumbing, welding, carpentry, etc. His family teased him that he often over-engineering the simplest of jobs.

All throughout his life, he enjoyed the game of baseball. He played as a child and throughout his adult life. When he lived in Rosenberg, he played in a Church Slow-Pitch Softball League. He loved traveling to different baseball stadiums and watching games. One of his many talents was that he was a human sports almanac. He could retell who played in different World Series games decades ago, who was pitching, what kind of records were set, - you name it!!

Not surprisingly, in his retirement Lonnie stayed busy by working part-time for the Round Rock Express Baseball team in Round Rock, TX.  He served as an usher, helped people find their seats, and enjoyed spending time talking with people about baseball.

Lonnie was a member at Peace Lutheran Church in Rosenberg, TX where he served on the Board. After he moved to Leander, he and his family became members at Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown where he served as President and Vice President.

Lonnie’s most memorable qualities included his love of family, his friendliness, and his enjoyment of sharing memories of his past. He enjoyed meeting new people and talking to everyone he knew.
