Lorene "Sis" Roese Riechers of Brenham passed away on December 3, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital, after a brief illness. She was born January 23, 1928 in Washington, Texas. She was baptized by Rev. F. W. Braun on February 1, 1928 and confirmed on April 18, 1943 by Rev. Paul Piepenbrock at Friedens United Church of Christ at Washington. She was also married by Rev. Paul Piepenbrock at Friedens to Burney H. Riechers on November 20, 1949. Lorene was "the baby" of Frank W. and Olga Schroeder Roese. She attended schools in Washington, graduated high school in Navasota, and attended Blinn College. Lorene Riechers is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Fred Louis Westerfeld, and Patti and David Jones Clay, all of Independence, Tx. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christin and Kenneth Seeker, Chad and Shae Westerfeld, Cammie and Juan Guzman, Cassie Westerfeld, Joshua and Cindy Clay, Jentri and Justin Blake, Johanna and Chance Wilkerson, and Jordan Clay and special friend, Kolbie Tappe. She is survived by her great-grandchildren, who she was known to as "Gigi", by Kaden and Katie Seeker, Morgan and Addison Westerfeld, Arabella Clay, Payton, Lyla, and Rex Blake and Cayd Wilkerson. She is also survived by her sister, Edith Dickschat of Washington, her brother, Harold "Pete" Roese of Comfort, sister-in-law, Dorothy Luedke of Centerville, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Evelyn and Walter Thielemann of Brenham. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Lorene was preceded in death by her husband, Burney Riechers, her parents, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charlie and Olga Wagner Riechers, brothers-in-law Frank Dickschat, Gerald Luedke, Ervin Riechers and Charlie Riechers, Jr.; sisters-in-law Theresa Roese, Thekla "Babe" Riechers, and Mary Ann Riechers, and nephew Alton Dickschat. Lorene was a faithful member of St. John''s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, the Rebecca Circle of St. John''s, the Texas Extension Education Association, Cattlewomen''s of Washington County, Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Dept. Women''s Auxiliary, an honorary member of the Prairie Hill-Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Dept., and an honorary member of the Prairie Hill Rifle Club. Lorene and Burney worked together on the land they loved in Prairie Hill. They raised cattle, were avid gardeners, and loved to make sausage for family and friends. Lorene taught her grandchildren how to preserve fruits and vegetables, and loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the Opry at Silver Wings. Her first place of employment was Robert Lange Construction. After her daughters were born, she stayed home to raise them and worked part-time in the office at Brenham Livestock Auction for many years. Later, she was employed by Brenham ISD as an instructional aide. Lorene "Sis" Riechers will be remembered for her vivacious personality and sense of humor that was still shown to her last day. Serving as pallbearers are relatives and friends. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, with Rev. David Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, or to a favorite charity. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at her Kruse Village home, as well as at Scott and White Hospital, who showed their love and compassion during the last few months.
