Lorine Haarmeyer

Lorine Wendler Haarmeyer, age 87, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center. Mrs. Haarmeyer was born in Washington County to Herman and Alvina Jurcak Wendler on June 20, 1923. She attended Mill Creek School. On April 10, 1940, she married Otto O. Haarmeyer. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1993. Lorine was an avid gardener and loved working with flowers in her yard. She was a generous person who was always willing to help someone in need. She worked for many years at Schoenvogel Clinic, A. C. Miller Pharmacy, and Brenham National Bank. She taught Sunday School at Salem Lutheran Church for several years and touched many lives during this time. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her loving family: daughter, Ruth and husband Frank Gurka of Chappell Hill; son Otis and wife Dianne of Montgomery, Tx.; grandchildren: Paul Anthony Gurka of Chappell Hill, Mary Frances Gurka of Brenham, and Kristy Lynn and husband Manar Haffer of Aurora, CO. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Ruby Wendler of Baytown, many nieces and nephews, six step-grandchildren, 14 step-great grandchildren, and special friend, Caitlin McCulloch. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Otto O. Haarmeyer, granddaughter Cynthia Anne Gurka, brothers and sisters-in-law Ewald Wendler, Alvin and Louise Wendler, Erna Mae Wendler and Alton and Minnie Wendler. Special thanks go to Administrative and Direct Care Staff at Gazebo Terrace and to Dr. Robert Haydon, Joan Goebel, and Dr. Nathan Simons for their care and concern. Pallbearers are Donald Wendler, Roy Haarmeyer, Ronnie Wellbrock, Waldemar Schramm, Robert Loesch, and William Wendler. Honorary pallbearers are A. C. Miller, Dr. Robert Haydon, Joan Goebel, Robert Mikeska, Tiemann H. Dippel, Ron Alfred, Nyschika Briscoe, Jackie Richter, Beverly Schlabach, AMA Home Caregivers, and Mrs. Lucille Eberhardt, friend and roommate. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2010 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Salem Lutheran Church, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
