Lorna Merten

Lorna Somers Merten, 76, of Burton, TX , died Saturday, May 22, 2004, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mrs. Merten was born Dec. 3, 1927, in Galveston, TX, to John and Evelyn Eva Ecret Somers. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston. On June 18, 1954, she married Chester C. Merten in Houston. Mrs. Merten was a member of St. John s United Church of Christ, where she was a member of Ladies Circle #2. She was also a retired activity director for Manor Care. Survivors include her husband Chester C. Merten of Burton; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Judy Merten of Bastrop, William C. and Carole Merten of Austin; daughters and son-in-law, Evelyn Shead, Sandy Merten, and Mary Beth and John Jewell, all of Austin; brother, Jack Somers of Houston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harvey and Floya Ann Merten of Brenham; 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton with Reverend Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ Building Fund. The family appreciates all the love and concern and the help and support that Floya Ann has given to them. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
