Louise Crafton

Mrs. Louise Elsa Crafton, age 88, passed away quietly at her home in the Sandy Hill area just East of Brenham on Sun, May 22, 2011. She was born on Aug 12, 1922 to Mr. Ralph E. Mack and Mrs. Josephine Plumley Mack, of Webster, Texas. Louise, affectionately known by her friends as Weezie, was an active member of First Christian Church in Brenham. Louise graduated from Webster HS in 1941 and led an active career as a wife, home maker, and business owner. During WW II, she lived in Hollywood, California and worked in the aircraft manufacturing industry and as a "USO gal". She was married in Houston, TX on Aug 12, 1948 to Robert L. Crafton. She raised three active boys, shepherding them through both Cub and Boy Scouts. During the early 1970''s, Louise obtained her beautician''s license. She started her own shop in Houston with a friend. As that business grew, she expanded into retail clothing and started a clothing store in Pasadena, Tx. Upon retirement, Louise and her late husband, Robert, who retired after 33 years from Southwestern Bell Tel Co. in Houston, built their home in the Brenham area. Louise has led an active life with her church, First Christian Church, in Brenham. She was an active member of the seniors group and also the Kazoo band that visited area nursing homes. Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1993 and her son, Carl R. Crafton, in 2002. Surviving family members are: a sister, Gertrude Mack Prejean, of Bakersfield, Ca; 2 sons: Robert Lynn Crafton and his wife Peggy A. Crafton of Harker Heights, Tx; and Craig Crafton of Brenham; plus three grandchildren: Robert B. Crafton of Brenham; Christine Crafton Brandon of Tacoma, Washington; and Tim Crafton of Harker Heights, Tx. Pastor Gary Jeter will conduct a memorial service for Louise on Fri, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 306 Cottonwood, in Brenham. Visitation will take place Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A grave side service will be conducted in League City at Fairview Cemetery, at a later date. The Crafton family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Christian Church on behalf of Louise Crafton.
