Lydia Vlasta Surovik Boecker, 97, widow of Oswald Boecker, passed away Feb. 1, 2011 in Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastors Matthew Jacob and William Holzer will officiate. Interment will follow in Wesley Brethren Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Lydia was born February 14, 1913 in Bleiblerville, Texas to Frank and Marie Pomykal Surovik. She was baptized as an infant on May 18, 1913 in Nelsonville Brethren Church and confirmed there on September of 1926. On October 6, 1938, she was married to Oswald Boecker in the Wesley Brethren Church by Rev. Henry Beseda, Sr. Mrs. Boecker was a homemaker, and also operated a nursery business, raising and selling various flowers and plants. A member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1959, she was active in the Ladies Circle and taught Sunday School for several years. Survivors include son Donald Boecker and wife Nancy, daughter-in-law Norma Boecker; grandchildren: Jeff and Darlene Boecker, Kristin and Henry Mikolajczak, and Aimee Boecker; great-grandchildren Sarah Boecker, Emily Boecker, Haydon Boecker, Chase Mikolajczak, and Mackenzie Mikolajczak; sisters Vlasta Prescott of Brenham, and Marie Martin of Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is predeceased by her husband, Oswald Boecker; son Barry Boecker; parents Frank and Marie Surovik; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Karl Ohrnberger, brothers and sisters-in-law Charlie and Leona Surovik, Willie Surovik, Frank and Esther Surovik, Edwin and Gladys Surovik, Henry Surovik, and Daniel and Bessie Surovik, and sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Harry Fox; and brother-in-law, Alex Martin. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or to a favorite charity. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham. 979836-4564.
