Funeral services for Lydia Lena Weiss Platzer are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Wesley Brethren Church in Wesley, with Rev. Henry Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Platzer passed away on May 5, 2013 at Brenham Nursing and Rehab in Brenham, at the age of 101. Lydia Platzer was born Aug. 18, 1911 near Wesley to Otto E. and Alvina Grote Weiss. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on April 12, 1912 in Greenvine Lutheran Church by Pastor Karl Mueller, and confirmed on March 28, 1926 in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome by Rev. A. J. Appel. Mrs. Platzer attended Wesley Elementary School, Sealy High School, Blinn College, and Draughon''s Business School in Houston. She was married to Raymond Culver Platzer on Oct. 19, 1935 at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church in Brenham by Rev. Arthur Hartman. Lydia and her husband made their home in Houston for 46 years. While living there, she served on many civic and community projects, including the Mykawa Home Demonstration Club, and the Mykawa Vol. Fire Dept. She was instrumental in obtaining city services for the Mykawa area, and worked tirelessly for the betterment of her community and its residents. Along with her husband, she helped establish First Lutheran Church in Pasadena. In 1977, the couple returned to live out their life on the farm where she was born, near Wesley. Survivors include grandchildren Jeff and Sheri Platzer, Mark and Ann McGregor, and Brett Platzer; great-grandchildren Benjamin Platzer, Marci Hoxworth, Abraham Platzer, Evan Platzer, and Travis McGregor. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Raymond C. Platzer, Sr., a precious son, Raymond Culver Platzer, Jr.; brothers Robert, Albert, Otto, Drue and Granville Weiss, and sisters Isabella Weiss Rudloff, Alice Grounds, and Alvina Light. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements for Lydia Lena Weiss Platzer are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
