Lydia Weinert

Lydia Meischen Weinert, 85, of Shelby, died Monday, August 13, 2007 at Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham. Lydia was born October 30, 1921 in the Shelby area, in Austin County, to Louis and Theresa Eckhoff Meischen. She remained a resident there her entire life. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on June 25, 1922 and confirmed on September 13, 1936. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shelby. On April 7, 1942 she married Wilfred C. Weinert, who preceded her in death September, of 1986. Lydia and W.C. worked together daily on their farm and for many years operated a successful egg production business. They also built and operated the Shelby Caf½ for several years. In addition, she was a homemaker, mother of three children, expert quilter, and a fantastic cook. Her homemade coffee cakes and bread were enjoyed by many. In addition to her church, Lydia was an active member of the Shelby Fire Dept., American Legion Auxiliary in Shelby, Shelby Sons of Hermann Lodge, Shelby Historical Society and Harmonie Hall. For many years she sang in the church choir and made coffee for Senior Citizens½ and Sunday morning fellowship. Survivors include her children: Betty and Donald Huebner, Lois and L. G. Albright, and David and Kelly Weinert; grandchildren: Terry Huebner; Todd and Deanne Huebner; Tim and Amy Huebner; Allison and Christopher Gorrebeeck; Ashley Giles; Brooke Weinert and fianc½ Jeremy Hasty, and Tanner Weinert; great-grandchildren Laine Michelle and Bryce Nichole Huebner; Dane Gross; Kyler Ashton Giles; Ava Elaine Gorrebeeck; sisters and brother-in-law: Regina Albert; Hertha Goebel; Gladys and Alfred Baack, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred C. Weinert; sisters and brothers-in-law: Elvira and Roy Klaus; Hilda and Anton Aschenbeck; Laura and Bruno Ehrigson; Selma and Alfred Bruening; brothers and sisters-in-law: Norbert and Hertha Meischen; Edgar and Wilma Meischen; Arthur and Alice Mae Meischen; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Oscar Albert; Bennie Goebel; Bennie Weinert; Esther and Guido Graeter; Lorena and Reinhard Bunjes, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Lydia Weinert will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 16, 2007 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby, with Pastor Charles Parnell officiating. Burial will follow in the Shelby cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, August 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Her grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Shelby or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
