Manola Papke Dannhaus, 92, of Brenham, widow of Melvin H. Dannhaus, passed away January 3, 2011 at the Brenham Rest Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Matthew Jacobs will officiate, with interment to follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive family and friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Dannhaus was born May 10, 1918 in Needville, Texas. She was the adopted daughter of loving parents, Herman and Emma Winkelmann Papke. Baptized March 22, 1922, she was confirmed April l9, 1933 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg, where she served as a Sunday School teacher. On March 3, 1940, she was married to Melvin Dannhaus at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Phillipsburg. Manola worked side by side with her husband on the farm for many years. She and her husband remained members of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg until 1984, when they transferred their membership to Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham. There, she was a member of the Afternoon Circle. After moving to Brenham, she worked part-time at the Prerry Bros. Dept. Store. Mrs. Dannhaus was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dannhaus on December 20, 2006. Her parents, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Arthur and Norma Pieper, brothers-in-law Bennie Pieper and Arthur Dannhaus also preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley Dannhaus Swoboda and husband, Ronnie of Waller; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janet Hegefeld Dannhaus of Houston; sister-in-law, Erna Pieper; three grandchildren: Scott Lehde of Houston, Tiffany Dannhaus Zbranek and husband Allen of Katy, and Debra Rodgers of Bloomington, MN; six great-grandchildren: Madison Zbranek, Morghan Zbranek, Mackenzie Zbranek, Jacob Lehde, Cassie Rodgers, and Cole Rodgers; two step-grandchildren: Clinton Swoboda and Tiffany Swoboda of Katy. Serving as pallbearers are Bobie Pieper, Lloyd Pieper, Larry Pieper, David Pieper, Allen Zbranek, and Clinton Swoboda. Honorary pallbearers will be Travis and Shirley Boeker, and Mark Schwartz. Memorials may be directed to Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main in Brenham.
