Margaret Heideman

April 16, 1913 — April 5, 2012

Margaret Gogolin Heideman joined her Lord and Savior at dawn on April 5, 2012. She was born to Pastor Paul and Rose Witte Gogolin on April 16, 1913. Her father baptized her on April 27 at St. John Lutheran Church in McGregor, Texas, and confirmed her in April of 1927 at St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill. Margaret married Ben Heideman on Easter Sunday, April 17, 1938 at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill, with her father officiating. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt to many nieces and nephews. She attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas, and for many years was very active in St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Sandy Hill, where she was a member of the Women of ALC serving in numerous positions throughout the years and taught Sunday School of all ages. She served as a delegate to the District Church Convention. She was the first woman to be elected to the ten member Southwest American Lutheran Church Mission Committee for a three year term. As a member of that committee, she was instrumental in establishing Christ Lutheran Mission Church in Brenham, and Our Saviours Lutheran Church in College Station. Margaret loved her Lord. She thoroughly enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and cooking. She was always seen wearing long sleeves, earrings, a hat and carrying her Polaroid camera, taking every picture she could. She loved writing long letters to family and friends and appreciated writing poetry and beautiful prayers. Early in her career for several years Margaret taught in a two-room schoolhouse in Sandy Hill, and looked forward to hearing from and visiting with her former students. In 1990 Margaret moved to Doctors Healthcare Center in Dallas, where she was the President of the Resident Council for several years, and remained there until her death. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and younger son, Paul, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, her brother Carl and sisters Clara Schulte, Gertrude Smith and Marie Cohen. She is survived by her son Kenneth and wife Becky, three grandchildren, Heather, Dawn and Alyssa; her sister Christine Grabow, her brother-in-law T. W. Wimberly and many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation for Margaret will be Sunday, April 15, 6-8 p.m., at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Her service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2012 which would have been her 99th birthday, at St. Matthew in Sandy Hill. Officiating will be Pastor Leon Knitt, her former pastor, from Wisconsin. Her interment will be in the St. Matthew Cemetery. Serving as honorary pallbearers are her nieces and nephews and her former students. Memorials may be given to St. Matthew in Sandy Hill, 8819 FM 2621, Brenham, TX. 77833 or to the charity of your choice.
