Marie Cohen

September 16, 1910 — February 10, 2005

Marie Gogolin Cohen, 94 of Brenham, died Feb. 10, 2005, in Medical Center Hospital in Dallas. Mrs. Cohen was born Sept. 16, 1910, in McGregor, Texas, to Pastor Paul and Rosa Witte Gogolin. She was baptized Nov. 6, 1910, in McGregor by her father and was confirmed April 14, 1925 in St. John Lutheran Church in Prairie Hill by her father. Mrs. Cohen attended Washington County schools, Texas Lutheran College and Providence School of Nursing. She served her country as a nurse, achieving the rank of lieutenant, in World War II while stationed in Abilene. On April 1, 1944, she married Sam Cohen in Abilene. Mrs. Cohen was a member of St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of DAV. Mrs. Cohen loved helping and taking care of people. She was a registered nurse and continued in that career until she was 89. She always talked about how she took care of the old people at the nursing home. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Charles Lange of Brenham and Sandy and Manuel Gonzalez of Dallas; grandchildren, Keith Lange, Lori Lange, Rodney Sladek, Paul and Clay Wiederhold and Manuelito Gonzalez; sisters, Christine Grabow of Brenham and Margaret Heidemann of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. and Mrs. Paul Gogolin; her husband, Sam Cohen; sisters, Clara Schulte and Gertrude Smith; brother, Carl Gogolin; one grandson; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13 in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. The family will receive visitors from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Keith Lange, Manuelito Gonzalez, Clay Wiederhold, Rodney Sladek, Donald Ray Ahrens and Kenneth Heidemann. Memorials may be given to St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church TV Ministry. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
