Marilyn Joyce (Meinke) Whitmarsh, 98, of Brenham, Texas joined her Lord, her family and many friends in her heavenly home on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
Marilyn was born on August 21, 1926 in LaGrange, Texas to August and Elvira (Schroeder) Meinke. She attended school in LaGrange and was a graduate of LaGrange High School.
On January 1, 1947 she was united in marriage with Carl W. Whitmarsh and they were blessed with two sons, James and Robert. Carl preceded her in death on June 19, 1989.
Marilyn worked as a secretary in the Brenham area for many years, starting with the Social Security Administration and then with Holleman-Reed Insurance. She served as the secretary for First United Methodist Church for a number of years and then as a secretary at Brenham Wholesale where she then became the produce buyer for over thirty years until her retirement in 1997.
Marilyn was a member of First United Methodist Church of Brenham where she served as a beloved Sunday School Teacher for many years, both in the children's classes and later in the adult classes. She was also a member of the Wesleyan Circle and the Eastern Star. She loved to read and spent many hours playing games, including with friends in an 84 group up until the past year. She also loved to crochet and many new babies were gifted with special crocheted baby blankets through the years.
Preceding Marilyn in death were her husband, Carl Whitmarsh; her mother and father; her mother-in-law and father-in-law; her brother, Lloyd Meinke and her sister, Minnie Zimmermann.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, James Whitmarsh of Brenham, Robert and Sherry (Weinert) Whitmarsh of Concord, CA.; granddaughters Elyse (Brian) Blair of Waco, and Ariana Whitmarsh of Walnut Creek, CA.; sister-in-law, Alice Meinke and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Marilyn Whitmarsh will be held on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Brenham with Dr. Richard L. White officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be given to First United Methodist Church of Brenham, 408 N. Baylor St., Brenham, TX 77833.
