Marjorie Ann Grace Matthies Thaler, 79, widow of Eugene Gene Thaler, passed away November 20, 2014 at St. Luke''s Hospital in Houston. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton, with Rev. Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham. Marjorie Thaler was born October 2, 1935 in Burton to Almuth Ernst and Lesta Sommerfeld Matthies. After completing her education, she was married to Gene Thaler on Sept. 26, 1953 at St. John''s United Church of Christ. She was employed as a bookkeeper at J.C. Penney in Houston. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Mike and Marion Thaler of Katy; Rick and Pam Thaler of Huntsville; daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie and Ken Cox of Houston; Kathie and Mark Griffis of Spring; and Debbie and Rick Kloss of Houston; grandchildren: Crystal Cox, Kyle Cox and wife Ashley, Kimberly Weiser and husband Collin, Tricia Cole and husband Scott, Brittany Thaler-Villa and husband Tony, Michael Thaler, Stephanie Griffis, Shelbie and Kelsie Thaler, Richard and Michelle Kloss; great-grandchildren Kathryn Thaler, Ryan, Grayson, and Chandler Cole, and Camden Cox. Also surviving is her sister, Evelyn Maass of Giddings; and brothers-in-law, Mervin Maass of Burton and Raymond Thaler of Brenham, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mrs. Thaler was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Thaler; her parents, Almuth and Lesta Matthies; sister, Carrie May Maass, sisters-in-law; Lunette Roehling, Eloise Whitener, Annie Laurie Thaler , and brothers-in-law, Dennis Maass, Bill Thaler, Melvin Roehling, and Oliver Whitener. Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Cox, Michael Thaler, Richard Kloss, Scott Cole, Tony Villa, Collin Weiser, and Jesse Cantu.
