Mark Hundemer

Mark John Hundemer, 75, of Latium went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 11, 2024 at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

He was born on February 27, 1948 at Wichita Hospital Sister of St. Joseph in Wichita, Kansas. He was third born of 4 boys to Louis "Louie" and Ruth "Maggie" Hundemer. He was baptized March 14, 1948 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Wichita, Kansas, and He received the sacrament of First Holy Communion in 1955 at Blessed Sacrament in Wichita, Kansas. He grew up in Wichita and due to his father's job, they relocated to Brady, Texas during his sophomore and junior years of high school. His father was transferred back to Augusta, Kansas for his senior year of high school, where he played football, and graduated in 1966. He went on to graduate from Butler County Community College in 1971 with a Liberal Arts Degree, majoring in general business with a minor in sales.

On March 15, 1986 he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Eberhardt at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. They made their home in Latium, where they raised their two daughters, Sarah and Haley.

Once he reestablished his roots in Texas in 1977, he was the sole proprietor for Latium Store. In 1980 he assisted Mr. Kenjura in starting K (Kenjura) & H (Hundemer) portable toilets, which he sold after a year of helping with the company. He then sold Latium Store in 1985 and became an outside sales representative for Brenham Office Supply Service from 1985 to 1991. From 1991 to 1993 he was a sales representative for Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. From 1993 until his retirement, he was a sales manager for the Toshiba Dealer of Precision Printing & Office Supply in Navasota. After his retirement he continued to work part time as a driver for LaRoche Chevrolet in Brenham until his health started to fail him.

Mark was an outstanding husband, father, and pops. He loved being "Pops" to his 4 grandchildren and with one on the way. He loved spending time with them as they were the light of his life. He enjoyed the country life. Whether he was hunting out of his bathroom window, fishing in local ponds or at the coast on the family's annual trip to Rockport, TX, he found such enjoyment in the outdoors. He loved playing golf as he did so for many years until back surgeries prevented him. He loved watching sports, PGA, Houston Texans, Houston Astros, and Houston Oilers. His love for football, whether he was playing it or watching it, as he got older, was abundant. He was the fire chief at the Latium-Wesley-Greenvine VFD for 25 years and earned many certificates during his time, including Fire Fighter of the Year in the 100 Club. He was a member of the local shooting club for numerous years. Mark loved people and would bring a smile or laugh to anyone he met.

Mark is survived by his two daughters and their families; Sarah McKeown and husband Robert III of Brenham, TX and Haley Folsom and husband Bryan of Brenham, TX; grandchildren Hunter Folsom, Brady & Brody Folsom, Karlee and baby McKeown on the way. Brothers and sisters in law Barry and wife Jan, Scott and wife Vickie, Sister-in-law Jennie Simpson and husband Jerry, Brother-in-law Tim Eberhardt and wife Linda, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mark is proceeded into death by his wife Jo Ann Eberhardt, parents Louie and Maggie, mother-in-law and father-in-law Armond and Lucille Koerth Eberhardt, grandparents, brother Jim Hundemer, and sister-in-law Judy Eberhardt.

Serving as pallbearers are Justin Simpson, Jardin Simpson, Greg Hundemer, Randy Klausmeyer, Todd Hundemer, Warren Wanjura, Robert Weiss and Terry Hundemer. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter, Brady and Brody Folsom, Robert "Bobby" Richter, Ryan Hundemer, Josh Guelker and Karlee McKeown.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg or charity of your choice.

A special thank you to his caregiver that became like another daughter to him, Lisa Vasquez. Also thank you to Dr. Alford and his colleagues, the staff in the ER at Baylor Scott & White in Brenham, the Washington County EMS team for the numerous fall assists, and the Air1 flight team that transported him to Memorial Hermann.

Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 18, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg with Pastor Alvin Luedke officiating and burial in the church cemetery.
