Martha Patrick

March 8, 1923 — July 6, 2015

Martha Lee Weiss Patrick, 92, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2015 in Brenham, Texas. Martha Lee Patrick was born March 8, 1923 in Somerville, TX to Robert and Christina Weiss. She was the fourth of five children with three older brothers and a younger sister. She was part of a large loving extended Christian family that included twelve uncles and aunts of the Weiss-Limmer families. She, like many other family members grew up in the Wesley/Latium community where most had a rural farming background and made their living off of the land. She was a product of the depression-era and learned at an early age to make the best of any situation, focusing on one day at a time and to leave something better than you found it. She attended and graduated from the Wesley School systems primary school, however since the Brenham district did not yet provide transportation to the neighboring High School, she like many of her farming contemporaries completed 8 years of formal education. Moving to Houston with the family in her teens, she met her future husband James Patrick on a blind date arranged by her brother Delphine Weiss. They married Nov 7, 1942 at Bethel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Houston. This began an almost 50 year marriage to the man of her dreams and the beginning of a life she had never imagined. She was a "military wife" with all of the faith and courage required of that time period, as husband James was a U.S. Navy serviceman during WWII. The War''s end moved the couple from Kingsville, TX to the cities of Dallas, Houston and Conroe as James was employed in the Airline industry for almost 35 years with first Pioneer and later upon merger, Continental Airlines. No matter if she was traveling to new, exotic places either by air, or vacationing on the ground, camping across the USA, her passion was making new memories with family and friends. She was a charter member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in The Woodlands, Texas, and a lifetime member of the Montgomery County Trailriders Association. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Gilbert, Delmus and Delphine; sister Laura Belle Zuehlke and husband James Patrick Jr. She is survived by her two sons, Cecil Lee Patrick, John Clark Patrick along with four grandchildren, Laura Leigh Patrick Rogers, Robert Lee Patrick-Gregory, John Clark Patrick Jr. and James Christopher Patrick. Upon retirement the couple took part-time residency on her family farm in the Latium community. She then continued to live there upon husband James'' passing in 1992, in her home with the past 5 years as a three-time a week dialysis patient. Never complaining, the lessons learned in her early childhood carried throughout her life. She was a selfless, multi-faceted loyal companion, devoted to God and Family. Her skills as a homemaker, caregiver, cook, devoted wife and mother, lifelong gardener and animal lover, photographer and family historian were enjoyed by the many lives she touched and treasured.
