Marvin Haevischer

Brenham

Marvin Haevischer, age 81, passed away July 28, 2021 at home in Brenham, Texas.

A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 30, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel.  A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2021 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill with Pastor Kris Brower officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Marvin was born at home on June 13, 1940 in the Welcome Community, Austin County to Benhart and Elsa (Klausmeyer) Haevischer.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Welcome.

Marvin grew up helping on the family farm and graduated from Bellville High School.  In 1960, he worked for Mavis Auction Barn in Sealy.  Marvin and his wife Dorothy met at the church Luther Leagues Volleyball.  After dating for six months, they married on February 4, 1961. They raised a loving family of three daughters, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.  They lived in Brenham for 60 years where they were members of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill.

In September of 1964, Marvin started working for the Brenham Fire Department from which he retired in 2000 after 37 years of service.  He was Fireman of the Year in 1998 for the Brenham Fire Department and Fireman of the Year in 1999 for the Central Texas Firemen’s and Fire Marshals’ Association. On his days off from the fire department, he worked for Thielemann Construction as a carpenter for 55 years.

Through the years Marvin and Dorothy traveled together enjoying cruises and other short trips.

He was preceded in death by his parents Benhart and Elsie Haevischer, his parents-in-law Walter and Elsie Winkelmann, brother-in-law Benjamin Spiess, and nephew Dwayne Haevischer.

Marvin is survived by his wife Dorothy; his daughters and sons-in-law Cindy and David Keathley, Cheri and Nathan Addicks, and Christy and Keith Dallmeyer; his brothers and sisters-in-law Weldon and Elaine Haevischer of Bellville, Gary and Betty Haevischer of Brenham, and Lloyd and Saundra Haevischer of Grapevine; his sister May Dell Spiess of Welcome; and brother-in-law Walter Winkelmann of College Station; his grandchildren Aubree and Derek Bates, Ashley Keathley, Joshua and Stephanie Devine, Jonathan and Christine Devine, and Jessica Devine; his great-grandchildren Luke, Kylee, and Blayke Bates, Phoebe and Jaden Parker, and Mason and Brody Devine and step great-grandchildren Eric and Callen Martinez; and many cousins; nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Arlen Thielemann, David Stegent, Robert Reichwein, Doug Maurer, Delano Klausmeyer, Erwin Emshoff, Timmy Herrmann, and Harry Bernshausen.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
