Mary Davidson

September 29, 1942 — August 11, 2010

After a long battle with illness, Mary Helen Davidson issued her final request: Take me home! Helen has returned home this August 11, 2010. As she passes into the arms of her Lord, we honor her life and spirit with this homecoming remembrance. Helen was born September 29, 1942 in Normangee, Texas to Mary and Herman Sanders. She graduated from Madisonville High School in 1961. She soon moved to Houston and began her career as a dental assistant for Dr. Walter Roup. After years of dedicated service, she became manager of his practice. Once Dr. Roup retired, Helen continued dutifully as manager for Dr. Alan Sexton. She was an indispensable asset to their practices, and their friendships were invaluable to her. Helen married in 1963 and gave birth to her pride and joy, her only son, Terrell, in 1968. After divorcing soon thereafter, Helen raised Terrell as a single mother until she met the love of her life, Raymond Davidson. In 1987, she married Raymond and welcomed his daughters, Lisa and Julie, into her heart. Helen and Raymond retired to Brenham, Texas in 2001 and began restoring their turn-of-the-century home. The home was a labor of love and evidenced the couple''s devotion to each other. It was the perfect sanctuary for Helen''s passions: collecting antiques and flow blue dishes, cultivating a beautiful garden, spoiling her beloved pets, entertaining her family and friends, and, especially, doting on her adoring grandchildren. While physically Helen was a delicate little flower of a woman, the love she shared with her family made her spirit strong and persevering. Even during the most difficult of times, Helen''s vivid sense of humor would light up the room. Helen loved to laugh with her cousin Verdonna Burk Brundige. In 2002, Helen needed a kidney transplant and was grateful to find a willing donor in her sister-in-law Becky. This was but one of the myriad of ways Helen''s family and friends showed their love and support for her, and she lived to reciprocate their acts of kindness, never taking their love for granted. Helen now joins her devoted parents who predeceased her. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond Davidson and children: Terrell Coble and fiancée, Krista Kyle; Lisa Hines and husband, Ron; Julie Garb and husband, Kevin. Helen is also survived by her close siblings: Marcia Hollingshead; Donald Sanders and wife, Margo; Kenneth Sanders and wife, Becky; and sisters-in-law Emily Callier and Linda Davidson. Her beloved grandchildren are: Terrell Junior TJ and Jasmine Coble; and Ariel and Isaac Hines. Helen has a large extended family, and her relatives were constantly in her heart; she loved her family dearly and unconditionally. Family and Friends are welcome to gather, remember and celebrate her life this Sunday, August 15, 2010. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main St., Brenham, Texas. Doors will be open at 1:45 p.m., and services will begin at 2 p.m. Memorial Oaks suggests floral arrangements with a Saturday, August 14 delivery. Donations can be made in her honor to the SPCA.
