Mary Louise Edwards, age 83, loving wife, mother and longtime resident of Brenham, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband and children on Wednesday, September 2, 2020. Mary was born on September 17, 1936, to Gregory and Paulina Cruz. She was the seventh of twelve children including three sets of twins.
She married the love of her life, Ron Edwards, at Cathedral of the Sacred Heart on December 31, 1961 in Houston, Texas. Together they raised four children, Laura Anne, William (Billy) Bartley, Lisa Carol, and Amy Lynne. She and Ron lived in Houston and Fort Worth before eventually settling in Brenham and developed many lifelong friendships every place they lived. Mary loved people. She never met a stranger and had a servant’s heart. She epitomized a strong yet loving woman. She prioritized her faith, family and her friends. All those she loved, she touched deeply but Mary’s greatest joy in life was her family. All who knew her were aware that her family was always her priority.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Edwards; her children, Laura Porter and husband Jeff Porter, Bill Edwards and wife, Melody Edwards, Lisa Edwards, Amy Barrilleaux and husband Clay Barrilleaux; grandchildren, Brittany Winslow, Brandi Ferguson, Andrew Harvey, Sam Porter, Dylan Porter, Marcus Matthews, wife Rebecca Matthews, Morgan Matthews and Austin Edwards and Sadie Belle Barrilleaux; great-grandchildren, Dustin Skaggs, Avery Cooper, Brooklyn Winslow, Layne Wangler, Savannah Ferguson, Trenton Matthews, Trever Matthews and Jordan Matthews; siblings, Fred Cruz, Polly Bowers, Molly Marquez, Joe Cruz and Jesse Cruz, their spouses; and many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Please join the family in celebrating Mary's life at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main Street, Brenham, TX 77833.
