Mary J. Odom, 78, of Brenham, widow of Willie E. Odom, died June 23, 2009 in St. Joseph Health Care Center in Bryan. Mrs. Odom was born September 20, 1930 to Joe and Mary McClintock Smith in Copeland, Texas. She attended Bastrop area schools. On April 1, 1950, she married Willie E. Odom, and enjoyed being a homemaker. Survivors include a son, Bill Odom and wife Eva of Brenham; daughters Linda Hurst of Navasota, Glenda Sissy Lawrence and husband John Sr. of Brenham, Barbara Merchant of Brenham, and Connie Sears and husband Guy of Bryan; sisters Bonnie Barth of Lockhart, Peggy Miller of Conroe and Thelma Williams of Houston; brother Jimmy Smith of Charleston, S.C., as well as 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a grandson, Marvin Allen Hurst, and a son-in-law, James Hurst. Funeral services for Mary J. Odom will be held at Memorial Oaks Chapel on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.with Rev. Bob Craig officiating. Interment will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place Thursday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
