Mary Young

Mary Lois Young, 81, passed away May 7, 2018 in Bryan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Jack Faulkner officiating. Burial will be Thursday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. in Afton Cemetery in Afton, Texas.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Mary Lois Young was born November 24, 1938 in McAdoo, Texas to Johnnie Woolley and Elsie Beasley Woolley. In high school, Mary had the distinction of holding the State’s record for the most free throws in a row. On June 21, 1957, she married H. L. (Bill) Young in McAdoo. He preceded her in death in 2016.

Mary was employed as an accountant. In later years, after moving to Washington County, Mary was active in the EEA Club of Washington County, the Lioness Club, and the Eastern Star. She was known to be a master quilter and crocheter, and was a faithful member of Greenvine Baptist church, as well as a loving wife and mother.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Young of Odessa; son and daughter-in-law, Jamey and Connie Young of Austin; adopted daughter Jill Bond of Berkeley, CA; grandchildren, Shelbi, Jeffrey, Dustun, Dallas, Ava, and Zara; brother, Smokey Woolley of Springtown; sister, Francis Donahue of Magnolia, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Young, and brothers Billy Jo and Dickie Woolley.

All members of the McAdoo Volunteer Fire Dept. will be honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be directed to Greenvine Baptist Church.
