Maxine Newton, 78, of Brenham, died July 28, 2004, in Trinity Care Center in Brenham. Mrs. Newton was born May 31, 1926, in Lubbock, to William and Lena Miller Howard. She was baptized in Yellowstone Baptist Church in Houston. Mrs. Newton was a graduate of Lubbock High School. On July 7, 1950, she was married to Jack M. Newton in Denver, Colorado. She was a housewife and was a member of First Baptist Church in Brenham. Survivors include her husband, Jack M. Newton of Brenham; one son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Brenda Newton of Katy; two daughters and one son-in-law, Dana and Andrew Allen of Pensacola, Florida and Diane Newton of Harrison, Arkansas; one grandchild, Colby James Newton of Katy; and one sister, Dorothy Salmonn of Big Springs. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and one brother. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, in First Baptist Church in Brenham with Rev. Steve Ponder officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Pallbearers will be Danny Bellah, Eddie Love, Leonard Griffin, Larry Till, T.K. Condron, Kenneth Hinckley, Chris Hetherington, Andrew Allen and Colby Newton. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church in memory of Maxine Newton. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
