It has pleased Almighty God on the evening of December 5, 2013, following a long battle with cancer, to call to Himself out of this vale of tears the soul of Melissa Dianne Griffin Jacobs. Melissa was born on January 24, 1953 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Travis Clyde Griffin Jr. and Billie Jean Hames Griffin. Melissa was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith on March 13, 1981 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Beaumont, Texas. Spending her early years in Albuquerque and San Diego, California, following the retirement of her father from the US Navy, Melissa was raised on a cattle ranch near Smiley, Texas. Melissa worked as a USDA Red Meat and Poultry Inspector prior to her marriage. On September 17, 1980 Melissa was united in Holy Matrimony with Matthew Jacobs in Seguin, Texas. The Lord blessed their union with the gift of four children. A longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church, Melissa served her Lord for a number of years as the Recording Secretary of the Sunday School and for many years as a Pastor''s wife. She firmly believed in the saving grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and through His grace alone now enjoys the peace of eternal life in heaven. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m., Sunday, December 8, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, with Pastors William Holzer and Alan Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 2 until 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Interment will take place Monday, December 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Griffin Cemetery in Gonzales County. Preceding her in death are her grandparents; her parents; her brothers, Louie Griffin and Travis Clyde Griffin III; and brother-in-law, Louis Guerrero. Surviving and mourning her loss are her husband, Pastor Matthew Jacobs; children, Tricia Sacre and husband Brett, Jan Gonzales and husband Ross; Aaron Jacobs and wife Kelley; and Benjamin Jacobs; grandchildren Melissa Salsbury and husband Micah, Erica, Austin, and Blake Sacre and Rebecca, Jillian, and Matthew Gonzales; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Gwen Jacobs; brother Robert Griffin and special friend Gracie Flores; sister Wanda Guerrero; sister-in-law Ladell Griffin; brothers-in-law Andy Jacobs and wife Susie, Brian Jacobs and wife Ruth, Corey Jacobs and wife Alice; sister-in-law Sarah Jacobs; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran School Scholarship Fund. Funeral arrangements for Melissa Dianne Griffin Jacobs are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W.
